There are many theories to treat addiction today. In fact, addiction is a major problem among many which can come in several forms. Addiction can be to tobacco, alcohol or drugs. In such cases a person is overwhelmed by the euphoria that is caused by these substances and is usually lost in the pursuit of the same. After a point of time, the person cannot even stop even if they wish too.

Their body develops dependency and soon they become physically dependent on the source. This means that their bodies will start showing symptoms when they do not indulge in whatever they are addicted to. This is the worst when it happens.

Alcohol drugs and tobacco are the major killers of humanity. They cause different diseases in the body and are the leading causes of cancer. A dependency on these substances is almost equal to a slow suicide. However, despite knowing the harmful effects of the substance on the body, people invariably indulge in such practices. Some get addicted. Before this addiction goes to a point of no-return, there should be adequate measures taken so the person can be taken out of the habit and his mind and body can be protected.

There are many ways to cure a person from addiction. There are many self-help clinics as well as addiction therapy clinics available that would help ensure that a person can be brought out of addiction at different points in time. The degree and the intensity of the treatment varies with the degree and the intensity of the addiction of the person to the particular substance.

There are, however, many myths also that are associated with addiction therapy and its recovery. People who are desperate to get rid of the addiction often tend to fall for these marketing schemes and strategies. The truth is addiction is something that is mental and it can be only gotten rid of with successful motivation and self-confidence. The person has to make strong mental efforts to get rid of his habits.

This means that there is no miracle pill that would cure a person from the habit of smoking or no miracle drink that would detoxify a body immediately. The person has to undergo tremendous change in their lifestyle as well as their diet in order to get a better perspective of life. There would be many withdrawal symptoms, but the person has to endure these to become a better person.

Another common theory is that a hard core junky can never be clean. This is one of the deep-rooted myths that stared due to lack of insufficient support to the addicts. Today, there are many rehabilitation centers that have helped millions across the country to overcome some form of addiction or the other.

While it is true that some would go back to their past selves, most of them will move on towards a better future than go back to the destroyed past that would only bring them sadness.
